Junior Raiders Football – Program Information

Objective

To give every child in the South Colonie Central School District an opportunity to play football regardless of weight or experience.  This program is affiliated with the school program. Every football player in the program from K-12 will work very closely together to learn the fundamentals of football and experience a positive football environment.

 Levels

  • K-2nd Grade Flag Football (Second graders with tackle experience will be able to play in the Junior Division)
  • 3rd-4th Grade Junior Tackle Division
  • 5th-6th Grade Senior Tackle Division
  • 7th Grade Tackle Division

*Players have the potential of playing down a division or up a division based upon their size and experience as determined by the Executive Board.

Cost

$90—this includes everything.  No association dues are collected because we do not answer to a regional or national chapter.  The Junior Raiders program will have all brand new equipment and uniforms, as safety is a very high priority for every child that participates.

$60—Registration fee for anyone that played youth football in 2012 (Pop Warner/AAU/Jr. Plainsmen)

Opportunities to participate for FREE will be made available through player/parent participation in spring fund raising events.  A deposit can be made at registration, rather than paying the full amount up front.  The full amount must be paid by Monday, August 22nd.

 League Format

Many area communities will be involved in this league.  We will compete against other area schools in the Junior, Senior and 7th Grade Tackle Divisions.

Registration Dates—@ main gymnasium in High School

  • Sunday, January  20th— 8-11A.M. @  H.S. MUG  (AFC/NFC Championship Sunday)
  • Sunday, February 3rd— 8-11 A.M. @ H.S. MUG (Super Bowl Sunday Morning)

Starting Dates

Monday, August 22nd

The Varsity Coaching staff will be holding a two week evening clinic starting Monday, August 4th.  The clinics will run Monday-Thursday evening and conclude on Thursday, August 14th.  Their will be no cost to attend this two week clinic as long as you are registered for Junior Raiders Football.  This is an optional clinic for people that know they will be in the area at the time and they want to increase their conditioning and preparation for the season.

Partnership with School Program

The school coaches will be running this program so that everything that is taught is consistent from level to level.  School coaches will be heavily involved in the planning and organization of practices and the league.  Varsity coaches and players will be at practice to help with drills/skills and techniques.

Welcome to Junior Raiders Football!

Colonie Football

As many of you have heard, a vote was passed on Monday evening for Colonie Youth Football to break away from Pop Warner.  As a football program we are very excited about this move.  We now can say, every child regardless of size, has an opportunity to play football.  The new Colonie Junior Raiders Football Program will be focused on the fundamentals of football.

Registration information for the 2013 season will be available soon.  Our focus in the format of the league is to have a later starting date and also bring down the registration costs.  The great thing about the new program is that it is our program.  We do not answer to any other association. We can make our rules best fit our kids within our program.

We just finished the 61st season of Colonie Pop Warner.  This fall we will be beginning our 62nd season of Youth Football at Colonie.  We are excited about the future of Colonie Youth football.  We look forward to continued success and the continued support from the community and the high school football program.

Thank you.

-Coach Bill Roemer and Staff
